NEWS 9/3/02 CELSUS RECEIVES RESEARCH FUNDING TO DEVELOP O-DESULFATED HEPARIN9/3/02 - Celsus Laboratories, Inc. received a phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to develop a process for the manufacture of an O-desulfated heparin the use of which has been shown experimentally to prevent ischemic reperfusion injury such as that associated with myocardial infarction, stroke and pulmonary thromboembolism. The research will be done in collaboration with the Carolinas Medical Center of Charlotte NC. Celsus Laboratories, Inc. of Cincinnati, Ohio is a manufacturer of conventional heparin products and promotes the development of novel heparin-like compounds for the treatment for cardiovascular disease.
